HERITAGE PROJECT  -  RE-HANGING the BELLS

Re-Hanging the Bells - 24th April 2009

With the preliminary site work completed,

the bells were returned and installed during the last week of April.

The cracks have been repaired and a cast resin collar secures

the original mounting lugs to the new suspension mechanism,

which includes modern bearings, instead of the original simple bar bearings.

The inscriptions on the bells are:

The Tenor - weight 8cwt 1qr
LESTER & PACK OF LONDON FECIT 1760
MR. IEREH HARRISON VICAR

The Second - weight 6cwt 3qrs
LESTER & PACK OF LONDON FECIT 1760

The Treble -  weight 6cwt
LESTER & PACK OF LONDON FECIT 1760
E DONO I KNOWLES IN 1630, RECAST 1760

Preparing the Framework for the Bells - April 2009

The original oak frame that supports the bells has to be retained as it is of historic interest,

but needs to be reinforced to provide a stable platform.

It was therefore raised and a substantial galvanised steel sub-frame built

to fix it securely to the stone floor of the bell chamber.

With the Treble and Second bells safely in the tower,
the Tenor was stored overnight in the church.
