Yorkshire Dales Development Framework

Housing sites being considered in Long Preston

These sites are being given further consideration by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

Site  27   is the upper one on Moor Lane (otherwise known as Greengate Lane).
It is estimated 4 houses may be built here.

Site  61   is on the main road next door to Grosvenor Farm.
It is estimated 10 houses may be built here.

Site  90   is on School Lane next to the school field.

It is estimated 10 houses may be built here.

Site 113  is the lower one on Moor Lane (otherwise known as Greengate Lane).

It is estimated 3 houses may be built here.

Site 133  is known as Lund's yard — with access via Moor Lane and School Lane.
                   Because this
was a late submission we don't have an estimate
of houses to be built there — (probably 9 or 10).

See this map which shows the sites.

There were other sites in Long Preston but they have been discarded as being unsuitable.

The National Park has a Working Group and it is these people who are looking at all the sites. They will suggest to the full committee of the National Park which sites should be put into their plan for future housing. This process covers the whole of the National Park (not just Long Preston) and is intended to increase the number of affordable homes in the park. Another aim is that the houses should give priority to local people.

The Parish Council are forming its own working group to look at the sites and submit their views about them to the National Park.

Time is short because the National Park will make their decision at their meeting in March.

So the Parish Council want to know what you think about these sites being used for housing.

When we know which sites have been recommended for the full committee of the National Park to consider in March, we'll get together a public meeting to decide what to do next and how best to tell the National Park what we think.

Settle Swimming Pool

need your waste paper and cardboard.

The introduction of the blue bag/bin scheme for collecting waste paper and cardboard could have a serious effect on the finances of Settle Swimming Pool.
They know that it is easier to leave it out for collection but they ask everyone who takes theirs to the Pool to please continue.
Could those who don't please consider whether they could take
their paper & cardboard as well.
If you live in Long Preston and can’t manage to get to Settle,
then
paper only can be taken to here.

Long Preston Parish Council:
Report of the meeting of 1 February 2010

Six Councillors were present along with one member of the public and Cllr Helen Firth.  Also in attendance was Paul Florentine, Craven DC to explain the new alternate weekly bin collection scheme and answer questions on waste and recycling.

On matters arising, it was agreed to bring back the questions on the Community Governance Review to the next meeting.  Further contractors were suggested to obtain quotes for the tree works; quotes are also to be obtained for putting new double glazed units in the bus shelter.  Information on the history of the water pump was passed to the Heritage Group.  It was noted that works appear to have started to replace the crossing for the Pennine Bridleway, but have not progressed and the village is now without a functioning safe crossing; NYCC Highways will be asked to remedy this as soon as possible and will also be asked what is actually going to be put in.  They will also be asked to visit to discuss the parking around the village hall.  The poor condition of Moor Lane was raised and this will be taken up with P Lambert, YDNPA.  On the call for housing sites, a working group has been set up to specifically look at the issue in more detail.  Several points were clarified on extending the annual insurance to cover the playing field so that a quote can be obtained.

Reports were received from H Firth on recent Craven DC activity, which is mainly budget related, and K McBride on the May Day Committee.

On village environment, B Hugill has been reminded about the light needing repair at Townhead and a letter is to be sent to J Middleton about the long delay in getting the new light put up at Grosvenor Place.  It is also time to renew the annual contracts for grass cutting and lengthsman; adverts will be put up with all replies and queries to be made to K McBride.  Highways will be asked to put up a new sign at the B6478 junction as it was not replaced following the lamp post being knocked over last year.  A letter giving the landowners permission for the erection of a road mirror opposite the Knowles Cottages turning was received and it was agreed that the Lengthsman would be responsible for erecting this.

On planning, the Council had no comments on the applications for 42 Hoyle Hill and land adjacent to Gallaber Farm.  It was noted that a new BT pole is to be erected near the Village Hall.

The next meeting is on Monday 01 March.
