the St. Mary's Parish
and Village Magazine, for yourself or a friend.
Please send name and address together with £5 for the year ( 10 issues incl. P&P
)

You will find a warm welcome at
Long Preston’s Women’s Institute
If you have recently moved to the Village or would like to make new friends, come along to the Village hall on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm.
Long Preston Women’s Institute do sometimes sing Jerusalem and some members make excellent jam, but there is much more to enjoy. A varied programme of talks, demonstrations and visits to places of interest, country walks, quizzes and an annual Lunch Aid Dinner.
A warm and friendly welcome awaits you at any meeting, but if you prefer to accompany an existing member then contact Sheila Grant on 840 007 or Sue Grimshaw on 840 283.
Village Hall Hire Charges to be Increased
The Village Hall Committee discussed the charges for the village hall use and decided, due to the increasing costs for utilities, etc, it would be necessary to ensure those costs are covered by updating the hire fees. Existing users will be informed of the new rates and lists will be displayed at the hall and on the Village notice boards. The new charges, the first increase for many years, will take effect from the 1st of September 2008.
Church Roof Marked with SmartWater
The lead on the roof of St. Mary’s Church has now been marked with SmartWater; which
is a harmless water based forensic property marker which contains microscopic identification
particles. No two SmartWater systems have the same forensic code, meaning marked
items can be irrefutably traced back to the church, and criminals coming into contact
with SmartWater can be linked with the crime scene.
The solution is invisible under
normal light, but glows brightly under UV light making it easily identifiable by
the police.
But better still is to deter theft; tell people the roof is marked and
if you see anything unusual by the church phone the police.
The last draw has been made for the current year’s membership and villagers are requested to rejoin for another year, as the 200 Club is a valuable money raiser for Village Hall Funds. Existing members will be contacted or please contact Mr S Robertshaw on 840554 for details of membership.
